Travel Photos Thursday - Rain Oculus

Here's a quick post to join in Nancie's Travel Photos Thursday at her Budget Travelers Sandbox introduced to me by Jim Mcintosh. 

Today I'm going to share photos of the Rain Oculus at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. 

Rain Oculus is a large acrylic and stainless steel structure found perched at the intersection of the shopping complex with the waterfront promenade.

This bowl-like sculpture is courtesy of Mr. Ned Kahn, an American artist and sculptor. 

Rain Oculus is supposed to create a whirlpool-like effect but only when it rains maybe, through which rain water flows down into the cavaedium.  It is open to the sky at the center and below is a canal where the rain water is collected. That canal is where you can enjoy a relaxing Sampan Ride ("Sampan" means small boat), a unique and luxurious boating experience in the middle of the shopping mall.

Passers-by often think that the Rain Oculus is a wishing well so they toss in coin which will then roll down a small hole and towards the canal below where it is then collected. Those who have let the coin rolled down successfully into the hole think they will have luck and those who didn't will usually try it a few times till they are successful with it. Well it doesn't cost you a fortune anyway with just a coin or two so just go with it but don't forget to say a wish though cause who knows it may surprise you with something. Fun stuff!

It was reported that it had collected a notably handsome amount of S$22,000 in coins since its installation last year.

Safari World

I'm back but not with a vengeance.... This blog definitely cannot go to rest now especially that three young gentlemen at heart have bestowed on me an award that motivates me to continue blogging or else they'll take it back from me.... Special mention to the hearttrobs of the blogosphere: Alejandro Guzman, Jim Mcintosh and Jim Brandano.... Thanks for the recognition. It means a lot.... Mine has to wait for a while though so stay tuned for that...

Today, I'm going to be sharing pictures with you about another safari adventure that I had from the Safari World Everland Theme Park in South Korea. Unlike the Singapore's Night Safari, this tour is during daytime so there is a good opportunity to take photos of the animals in bright lights. Another difference here is that the wild animals move freely in the safari so you can't get the chance to step outside the bus  (which is the main transport for touring the entire safari) and get the chance to explore it at your own leisure time on foot. There is no walking trail whatsoever just like the ones in Singapore. But you still get the chance to get up-close with the animals like bears, tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, camels and zebras. The highlight of this safari is the cross breed of the animal between the lion and the tiger which is known as "liger". Ever heard of such a thing? This was the first time I ever heard of such and I really saw it right before my eyes. The pictures below will show you some of the animals you can find at the Safari World.
